Where's my moose?

Talking to a guy at a gas station a few days back I learned that when the mosquitos and biting flies get really bad the moose will come out of the woods to get away from them and stand on the road at night - hence all the "night danger signs - "you don't have to worry about them running out in front of you like a dear but your headlights will pick up the glow of their eyes and you know it's a moose because of how far off the ground they are". This made me very glad of three things. First, if the bugs are that bad I'm glad I'm not camping on this trip. Second, I am glad that I don't ride after dark. And finally I'm really glad I'm not a moose.

Well in spite of all the dire warnings and comments from locals about how often they see moose by the side of the road I never saw a moose in Canada. I saw a fox, a bear, and a skunk but no moose. Yesterday evening I even passed up the hot tub and pool to go back out of town just before sunset on the road I had come in on to a place close by where I had seen a lot of beware of moose signs but no luck and I definitely didn't want to be out there after dark to see one.
